Job Summary

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and testing of mechanical systems for spaceflight hardware and ground support equipment. This role plays a vital part in advancing propulsion technologies, structural systems, and mission-critical components for NASA's exploration programs. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative engineering solutions to life.

Essential Job Duties
  • Design and analyze mechanical components and assemblies for aerospace applications.
  • Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses using simulation tools.
  • Support fabrication, integration, and testing of flight and ground hardware.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement design improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with NASA engineering standards and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to meet mission requirements.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2 + years of experience in mechanical design, analysis, or testing (aerospace experience preferred); Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or Siemens NX)
  • Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) and engineering calculations
  • Must be a US citizen

Physical Demands
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to walk short distances.
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items.
  • Ability to view a computer terminal.

Skills and Attributes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes, and tolerance analysis.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing (vibration, thermal, vacuum).
  • Understanding of configuration management and quality assurance practices.
