Job Description: JDS is seeking a motivated and highly organized Project Engineer to join our Environment and Reclamation division. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering and project coordination within the mining and/or environmental remediation sectors. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to projects that prioritize sustainability, collaboration, and community partnership.
The work schedule will include a mix of standard 40-hour office work weeks, with occasional travel for site visits, project-related workshops, and on-site coordination during field programs in various locations.
Responsibilities:- Work closely with environmental and engineering consultants to advance design and study work.
- Attend coordination and review meetings with the project team.
- Review constructability of designs.
- Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise.
- Support development of permit applications and stakeholder engagement plans.
- Develop CAPEX and OPEX estimates for mine closure and reclamation projects.
- Project Coordination / Controls:
- Drive progress by planning, executing, and monitoring project activities across multiple tasks/phases.
- Development of RFQs, RFPs, and bid evaluations.
- Hiring and managing consultants/contractors, reviewing invoices, and negotiating contracts.
- Requesting Purchase Orders from Accounts Payable.
- Planning site programs and supporting their execution through coordination and procurement. Examples of site programs include drilling programs, environmental monitoring, and infrastructure upgrades/maintenance.
- Management of technical and environmental desktop scopes.
- Budget development, change management, and cost tracking and reporting.
- Developing and utilizing change management tools such as change notices, change orders, RFIs, from both the owner and consultant / contractor side, ensuring a high level of detail and accuracy.
- Contributing to and maintaining detailed project schedules.
- Leading, coordinating, and documenting meetings.
- General Administration (organization and filing of project documentation, including proposals, quotes, purchase orders, invoices, reports, etc.).
- Promote a culture of health and safety.

Undergraduate or graduate degree in an applicable engineering discipline (environmental, civil, geotechnical, mining) with a minimum of 4 years of practical experience.Ideally registered as a P. Eng. in British Columbia, or other Province or Territory.Previous site experience in reclamation, preferably with a focus on closed mine sites is considered an asset. Familiarity with permitting for reclamation projects is considered an asset. Understanding of project cost control fundamentals with analytical skills and experience in financial analysis, modeling, and budget methodologies.Proficient in implementing change management tools and managing budgets.Excellent organizational, analytical, and technical skills with a strong attention to detail.Exceptional writing and presentation abilities using Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams).Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or resource software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Leapfrog or others.Familiarity with Primavera P6 is considered an asset.Ability to work in remote and challenging environments.Based in Vancouver, within commutable distance, or willing to relocate, is preferred but not critical. Valid Driver's license required (minimum of Class 5).Bilingualism is considered an asset (English/French).Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Compensation:
Compensation will be based on the experience of the applicant.Competitive compensation is based on actual hours of work performed (hourly as opposed to salary).Travel time to/from a project site is paid from point of hire up to a maximum of 8 hours per travel day. Travel costs to/from a project site are reimbursed.Time off will be accommodated with appropriate advanced notice to the Project Manager.Vacation starts at two weeks per years (and included in hourly compensation). Additional un-paid time off is available based on project workload.A Health Savings Account is provided.
Work Schedule:
Office work is capped at 10 hours per day, with 8 hours per day as standard.On-site / shift work is capped at 12 hours per day.Occasional site visits will be required in this role. During field programs, rotational work may be required.
