Our focus is on new condensing boiler and heat pump water heater technology and the continued growth and success of our organization.

Laars Heating Systems is seeking a Mid-Level Electro Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team focused on the design, development, and optimization of commercial heating systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in mechanical, electrical, and control systems who is passionate about applying mechatronic principles to energy-efficient, high-performance heating solutions.

You will play a key role in developing new commercial heating solutions including integrating sensors, actuators, control logic, and embedded systems into our designs, contributing from concept through production and field validation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Integration:
    • Develop and integrate electromechanical subsystems into commercial platforms (e.g., control valves, ignition systems, pumps, sensors).
    • Design/architect control algorithms and logic for thermal systems, including combustion control and safety systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
    • Build and test prototypes for new features and components.
    • Develop test plans and procedures to validate system performance, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., ASME, UL, CSA).
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Prepare technical documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, control logic flowcharts, and test reports.
    • Ensure designs meet industry codes, efficiency standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of existing boiler platforms through cost reduction, reliability enhancement, and energy efficiency initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in HVAC, thermal systems, or industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in control systems design, embedded systems, and mechatronic integration preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming, microcontrollers, DAQ systems.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and codes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, such as standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechatronics or Control Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with combustion systems, gas flow regulation, or boiler certification processes.
  • Understanding of IoT integration in industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and root cause analysis (RCA) techniques.
  • Familiarity with Heat pump and/or chiller applications.
  • Familiarity with Commercial boilers

Why Join Us?
  • Opportunity to work on industry-leading commercial boiler technology.
  • Collaborative and innovative engineering environment.
