Job Description

Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 with Bonus Potential

Key Responsibilities
  • Mine Design & Planning:
    • Prepare short-term and long-term pit designs, extraction plans, and production schedules.
    • Optimize quarry sequencing to maximize reserves and minimize haul distances.
    • Coordinate overburden stripping, dewatering, and reclamation activities.
    • Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and reserve modeling to support raw material blend consistency.
    • Monitor quality and coordinate with the quality control technicians and production teams to maintain desired chemical and physical compositions (e.g., CaCO₃, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, Fe₂O₃ ratios).
  • Drilling, Blasting & Production Support:
    • Manage blasting programs to achieve proper rock fragmentation and meet crusher feed requirements.
    • Evaluate drill and blast performance and recommend improvements to lower cost and enhance productivity.
    • Support mobile equipment selection, utilization, and performance tracking.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Enforce MSHA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and training initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with air, water, and land-use permits.
  • Exploration:
    • Develop exploration plans to fill in or supplement the existing geologic model.
    • Acquire bids for, and manage, exploratory drilling, core testing, and logging.
  • Cost Control & Continuous Improvement:
    • Assist in development of annual budgets for mining operations.
    • Monitor operating costs and implement cost reduction measures.
  • Technical Support:
    • Participate/Manage feasibility studies, equipment evaluations, and mine optimization projects.
    • Manage special projects- This could include but is not limited to direct supervision of personal on a project, design of and implementation of projects, and field mapping/collection data.
    • Maintain mine maps, survey data, and production reports.
    • Collaborate with environmental teams on reclamation and land restoration projects.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in aggregates or surface mining.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of open-pit quarry operations.
    • Proficiency with mine planning tools (AutoCAD, Carlson, Mine Plan 3D, etc.).
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Preferred: EIT/PE license, MSHA certification, cement, lime or another industrial mineral experience

Work Environment
  • Outdoor quarry environment; exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and weather conditions.
  • Frequent field presence required to oversee active mining areas.

The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
