JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Industrial Engineer 1 is responsible for analyzing, developing, and optimizing labor standards, production processes, and material flows to improve operational efficiency, cost effectiveness, and throughput within a contract manufacturing environment. This role conducts detailed time and motion studies, maintains labor models used for quoting and capacity planning, and applies Lean Manufacturing principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives across production and warehouse operations. The Industrial Engineer 1 partners closely with cross-functional teams to identify bottlenecks, improve layouts, enhance productivity, and support data-driven decision making. Clear, effective communication and strong analytical skills are critical to success in this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Labor Analysis & Standards:
- Conduct, document, and maintain time and motion studies for all labor operations.
- Develop, maintain, and update labor standards and labor cost models for existing and new production processes.
- Maintain the labor model used for quoting to ensure accurate estimates across all work processes.
- Conduct labor studies for current products to identify improvement opportunities and drive efficiency gains.
Process Optimization &Continuous Improvement
- Analyze equipment productivity and performance data; research, recommend, and support implementation of improvements.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to maximize production efficiency, reduce waste, and improve yields.
- Create and execute continuous improvement and operational excellence plans.
- Lead and support cost reduction, capacity utilization, and process flow improvement initiatives.
Material Flow & Facility Layout
- Analyze and recommend improvements to material flow throughout production, receiving, storage, and shipping processes.
- Ensure production and warehouse floor layouts are designed to support optimal efficiency and throughput.
- Identify and mitigate bottlenecks through layout optimization and process redesign.
Capacity Planning & Data Analysis
- Build capacity models and simulations to analyze production requirements and identify constraints.
- Develop dashboards and data visualizations that highlight performance trends and improvement opportunities.
- Perform detailed work measurement, process analysis, and productivity studies to support data-driven decisions.
Cross-Functional Support
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, quality, and management teams to implement improvements.
- Support proposal and quoting efforts by developing labor cost estimates and capacity assessments.
- Maintain clear documentation of studies, standards, and improvement initiatives.
- Perform addition duties and special projects as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using advanced Excel or other analytical toolsets.
- Familiarity with mechanical design software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Experience with CAD, Mentor Graphics, Cadence Allegro, or Zuken is a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes with the ability to recognize non-conformance and operational issues.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented contract manufacturing environment.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position is conducted in a combination of office and warehouse/production environments. The role involves regular computer use, attending meetings, and periods of sitting, as well as routine movement throughout manufacturing areas that may include walking, standing, and occasional handling of materials. Work may occur in areas with varying temperatures, noise levels, and typical industrial conditions.
