Description Assist with municipal public works projects and other tasks under the direction of a public works manager.
Undergraduate student salary range is $19.26 - $22.41/hour. Graduate students may qualify for a higher starting rate.
Essential Functions - Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers in a manner that inspires professionalism, strong communication, team building and alignment with city values.
- Support the department's survey work, construction documentation, and construction staking.
- Support the project payment application process, including, but not limited to, measuring and quantifying work performed by the contractor.
- Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
- Perform traffic counts and assist with traffic data.
- Prepare estimates of construction costs.
- Work with computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare documents.
- Facilitate document creation and review using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or other programs.
- Inform supervisor promptly of significant developments in areas of accountability.
- Assist with the scoping and data collection for future projects.
- Perform other work as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Currently enrolled in college or have recently completed a bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- A valid Class D driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth's CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion and connection) and comfort with supporting and advancing the city council's strategic priorities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Basic knowledge of construction survey techniques and standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Supplemental Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSVery Frequent (Often required to perform the job): Reaching (extending hands and arms in any direction), handling objects (grasping, turning), sitting and stationary desk work with neck bent forward, repetitive hand motion. The employee must handle and carry items such assurvey equipment, tools and utility castings and must be able to lift object(s) from 0 to 50 pounds and carry object(s) for 0 to 50 feet.
