Position Overview

The Plumbing Design Engineer plays a vital role on IPD's MEP design team, contributing to the development of plumbing systems for both new construction and renovation projects. Working alongside senior engineers and project managers, this role offers hands-on involvement in all design phases-from concept through construction-while providing mentorship opportunities and room for advancement.

Ideal for a technically skilled and detail-oriented designer, this position blends technical execution, coordination, and creativity in support of diverse building projects throughout New York State.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft detailed plumbing construction drawings including plans, details, and sections.
• Perform plumbing calculations, including water, waste, vent, and gas systems.
• Design plumbing and piping systems for commercial, residential, healthcare, and institutional facilities.
• Select and specify plumbing equipment and fixtures.
• Develop construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (HVAC, electrical, structural) and architectural teams.
• Participate in the development of project details, schedules, and specifications.
• Support code compliance research, ensuring designs meet applicable plumbing and building standards.
• Contribute to sustainable design strategies including water efficiency and conservation measures.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure quality, accuracy, and technical excellence in all deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Computer-Aided Drafting.
• 8+ years of plumbing design experience in a consulting engineering environment.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit required.
• PE license not required (EIT or track toward licensure preferred).
• Excellent understanding of building and plumbing codes.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively with cross-discipline teams.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with a proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $72,000 - $105,000 annually (DOE)
