Senior Geophysicist/Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Hagerstown, MD

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Geophysicist/Senior Geotechnical Engineer, to join our team in Hagerstown, MD and participate in a wide variety of geotechnical/geophysical evaluations and the oversight of related projects. Projects are primarily located in Washington/Frederick/Allegany/Cumberland, MD and Caribbean area; however, the candidate will have the opportunity to support other HCEA offices throughout the Company.

General Responsibilities:
  • As a Senior Professional, lead and support the Company's Geotechnical/Geophysical Group.
  • Establishing cost-effective geotechnical/geophysical programs based on site conditions and requirements to support project designs. In this role you will often work with other company Principals.
  • Perform geotechnical/geophysical analyses by conducting and/or reviewing and interpreting the collected data. Provide geotechnical/technical support to our project managers and attend regular project progress meetings.
  • Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, and engineering/geophysical reports.
  • Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondence.
  • We have low barriers for interdepartmental work so you will also be involved in Construction Materials Testing projects, Geotechnical Engineering Projects and occasionally Environmental consulting projects where geophysics are used.
  • Enhance our client satisfaction ratings by providing thorough, professional service and maintaining continuous communications to build long-term relationships.
  • Oversee the technical excellence of all branch service providers and ensure that the highest levels of quality and integrity are the standard deliverable to our clients.
  • Follow company safety and site safety standards.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • B.S. Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, M.S. preferred.
  • B.S. Geology or Geophysics, M.S. preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience after graduation.
  • P.E. or P.G. required. Will consider other pertinent educational qualifications in lieu of P.E. or P.G. licenses.
  • Geophysics experience (some not all are you expected to have familiarity with): Seismic Refraction surveying, Electrical Resistivity Imaging (ERI), Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW), Electromagnetic (EM) Testing, Micro-gravity (MG) Testing, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
  • Experience in geophysical subsurface characterization in Karst (sinkhole prone) Topography is preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter with desire to provide excellent service to clients.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short periods of time. Passport preferred to support our Caribbean location.
  • Physical requirements may require lifting up to 50 pounds and traverse over rugged terrain.
