DescriptionMagna IV Engineering is seeking a highly experienced
Senior Electrical Engineering Specialist to provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across industrial electrical projects. This role supports project teams with advanced electrical engineering knowledge, design review, standards development, and technical problem-solving for clients in the heavy industrial, petrochemical, utilities, oil & gas, and manufacturing sectors. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Electrical Specialist acts as a trusted technical authority, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality electrical solutions while supporting continuous improvement across the organization.
This
position is primarily based at our Langley corporate office with approximately
15% business travel as required.
Technical Expertise & Oversight- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for electrical power systems, protection, control, and electrical apparatus
- Provide technical guidance and review for electrical designs, calculations, and deliverables across multiple projects
- Review and approve:
- Design Basis Memoranda
- Engineering Design Specifications
- Single-line diagrams, protection & control schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts
- Construction Work Packages and IFC deliverables
- Perform and validate power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination) using tools such as ETAP
Standards, Quality & Compliance- Develop, maintain, and interpret internal electrical engineering standards, best practices, and design guidelines
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code and industry standards
- Lead technical QA/QC reviews and resolve complex design or field issues
- Support hazard assessments and electrical safety initiatives
Project & Field Support- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
- Review procurement specifications, vendor documentation, and technical bid evaluations
- Support electrical inspections and interface with regulatory authorities as needed
Client & Internal Collaboration- Act as a senior technical advisor to clients and internal stakeholders
- Lead client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops
- Support proposal development with technical input, scope definition, and estimates
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, constructible solutions
Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing- Mentor and support Engineers-in-Training, intermediate engineers, and technologists
- Promote technical consistency, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the engineering team
Safety- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices in office and field environments
- Work safely around low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems in industrial settings
RequirementsEducation & Certification- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with EGBC (or registered elsewhere and eligible for registration in British Columbia)
Experience- Minimum 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, preferably in industrial environments
- Demonstrated experience as a technical authority or SME on complex electrical systems
Technical Expertise- Advanced knowledge of:
- MV and LV power distribution systems
- Protection and control systems
- Electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, and protection relays
- Hazardous and non-hazardous area design per the Canadian Electrical Code
- Proficiency with electrical analysis and design tools such as:
- ETAP
- AutoCAD, MicroStation, SmartPlant, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of P&IDs, loop diagrams, single-line diagrams, and instrument data sheets

Additional Requirements- Valid driver's license

- Ability to perform physically demanding work in industrial and field environments
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and structures, and work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and stoop for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and coordination to operate tools, test equipment, and electrical instruments.
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and equipment displays, including color differentiation as required.
- Ability to hear alarms, verbal instructions, and environmental sounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and flexible schedules, including overtime and travel.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, flame-resistant and arc-flash-rated clothing, high-visibility apparel, protective footwear, insulated gloves, and respiratory protection as required.
- Ability to safely perform job duties while wearing PPE.
