About the roleThe Electromechanical Engineer supports the design, development, and ongoing operation of electromechanical systems used in precision shutter manufacturing and assembly at Advanced Thin Films. This is a hands-on, on-site role within a high-volume, high-complexity production environment with tight tolerances and high reliability expectations.
The role is suited for a self-starting, mid-level engineer who is safety-focused, quality-driven, and comfortable making independent decisions while considering team input. A growth mindset, willingness to teach, and low-ego approach are important for success, especially when collaborating across manufacturing, quality, operations, and engineering teams. Flexibility during project ramp-up and ramp-out cycles is key.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and support electromechanical systems and subsystems including motors, sensors, actuators, motion systems, and control components.
- Create, review, and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs and equipment modifications.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in manufacturing, lab, and cleanroom settings.
- Support production equipment used in inspection and process operations.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, process engineering, quality, and operations teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and performance.
- Participate in structured root cause analysis and corrective action activities such as 5 Whys.
- Develop and execute test plans for electromechanical systems.
- Create and maintain technical documentation including specifications, work instructions, and test reports.
- Contribute to engineering change and controlled documentation processes.
- Ensure systems comply with internal safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-functional problem-solving.
- Operate with a teamwork-oriented, teacher-first mindset that supports knowledge-sharing and mentoring.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
- Three to six years of experience designing, supporting, or troubleshooting electromechanical systems in manufacturing, equipment, or lab environments.
- Experience with LabVIEW, SolidWorks, and general PCB design.
- Experience working within a quality management system and using quality tools such as 5 Whys.
- Soldering experience or certifications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
- Understanding of system integration, testing methods, and reliability engineering.
- Familiarity with equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, environmental chambers, power supplies, and programmable boards like Arduino.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and thorough documentation habits.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability, safety, and repeatability.
- Ability to work independently with sound decision-making while incorporating team perspectives.
- Proven success working collaboratively and professionally with teams; able to contribute without ego.
- Adaptable and capable of maintaining effectiveness during rapid project changes or production transitions.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands- On-site role based in Longmont, Colorado.
- Regular work in cleanrooms, labs, and manufacturing environments.
- May involve standing, walking, bending, and working near production equipment.
- Occasional lifting of equipment or components within safety guidelines.
- Use of personal protective equipment as required.

Total RewardsThe compensation range for this position is $109,800.00 - $164,600.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
