Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead the civil engineering group in a full-time, on-site or hybrid capacity based in
Downtown Los Angeles, CA. This leadership position involves overseeing project delivery, mentoring technical staff, driving business development, and contributing to the strategic growth of a high-performing multidisciplinary office.
What You'll Do- Manage civil engineering department operations, including staffing, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
- Provide technical oversight and direction on civil engineering design, including site development, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater systems, and permitting.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver work on time, within budget, and to client standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and public agencies.
- Develop scopes of work, budgets, fee proposals, and manage project financials.
- Cultivate client relationships and actively pursue new business opportunities.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level staff to support their technical and professional growth.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, permitting processes, and applicable design standards.
- Collaborate across disciplines and office locations to deliver integrated solutions.
What You BringRequired:- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering experience in the U.S. (California-specific experience preferred).
- Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience.
- Proven project management and client relationship skills.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
Preferred:- Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of City of Los Angeles permitting, zoning entitlements, and public utility infrastructure.
- Background in business development and proposal preparation.
- Involvement in local professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, APWA).
- Familiarity with energy storage systems and sustainable design practices.
