About the Role

An opportunity is available for an experienced Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead the civil engineering group in a full-time, on-site or hybrid capacity based in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. This leadership position involves overseeing project delivery, mentoring technical staff, driving business development, and contributing to the strategic growth of a high-performing multidisciplinary office.

What You'll Do
  • Manage civil engineering department operations, including staffing, performance reviews, and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction on civil engineering design, including site development, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater systems, and permitting.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver work on time, within budget, and to client standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and public agencies.
  • Develop scopes of work, budgets, fee proposals, and manage project financials.
  • Cultivate client relationships and actively pursue new business opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level staff to support their technical and professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, permitting processes, and applicable design standards.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and office locations to deliver integrated solutions.

What You Bring

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering experience in the U.S. (California-specific experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff management experience.
  • Proven project management and client relationship skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.

Preferred:
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of City of Los Angeles permitting, zoning entitlements, and public utility infrastructure.
  • Background in business development and proposal preparation.
  • Involvement in local professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, APWA).
  • Familiarity with energy storage systems and sustainable design practices.
