GPI is currently seeking a Hydrology & Hydraulics Engineer to join our Pittsburgh, PA office. As the successful candidate, you will have an interest in stormwater management and drainage design for transportation related projects throughout the United States. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, floodplain mapping, transportation drainage design, and stormwater management permitting. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, designing, and implementation of effective drainage systems on a wide variety of challenging and complex hydrologic and hydraulic projects. Responsibilities:
  • Storm drainage design, stormwater management, BMP analysis and design, stream restoration, floodplain studies, familiarity with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-55, and/or other similar hydrologic, hydraulic, and drainage engineering design programs
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic studies utilizing HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS or SMS SRH 2D
  • Prepare Stormwater Management Plans for sites with complex drainage
  • Exercise knowledge of the construction process as it relates to permitting and surveying

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • 2 or more years of professional engineering experience related to the performance of infrastructure, hydrology, and hydraulics design related projects
  • Experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling of riverine systems, 1D/2D modeling, Dam breach analysis, floodplain delineation, culvert, and bridge hydraulics, scour analysis, erosion and sediment control design, FEMA flood hazard requirements, plan review, and plan and report preparation.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation or ArcGIS

Requirements

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
