Project Engineer

Location: Ashland, VA

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Job Summary: Manages new product development including applications, detail design, and project engineering.

Duties / Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for all aspects of their assigned engineering projects. This includes:

• Applications Engineering
  1. Works with the sales team and customers to gather application data and provide initial feasibility assessment and design concepts
  2. Works with the sales team to develop bids by providing cost and lead time estimations
  3. Performs detailed analyses for designs as required to verify the maintenance of performance targets and conformance to established best practices
  4. Provides expert technical consultation to sales team and directly to customers on product requirements.
• Design Engineering
  1. Maintains Engineering Documentation for projects as required by the governing Quality Management System
  2. Produces detailed drawing packages including customer-approval drawings as well as manufacturing drawings and component drawings
  3. Assists Manufacturing Engineering in the formulation of work instructions for manufacturing as well as providing additional manufacturing instructions and procedures where required
  4. Provides design review for designs produced by other Project Engineers
• Project Engineering
  1. Assists Manufacturing Engineering in the transfer of projects to procurement and production staff
  2. Guides parts through production, ensuring compliance with all relevant project requirements
  3. Manages the engineering project timeline through the applications and design phases.
  4. Devises and oversees qualification test plans and writes qualification test reports where necessary
  5. Helps to maintain Porvair's status as a provider of world-class filtration solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• An established and practical approach to engineering challenges
• High mechanical and problem-solving aptitude
• Technological proficiencies including MS Excel, MS Project and Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD
