- Six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering technical experience.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, surveying, construction management, computer science, or specific area of study as deemed applicable may substitute for four (4) years of experience; or,
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as those listed above.
Available Schedules:- 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday
- Opportunity for an alternate/flexible schedule after the first 90-days, upon approval

This position may be eligible for the following additional pay, up to a maximum of 10%:- 5% for a Master's Degree

The anticipated hiring range for the Engineering Technician IV position is $36.17(first step) to $37.98or $39.87(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Examples of Job Duties Essential Functions of the Position:- Develops, designs, and/or oversees, the completion of engineering drawings and plans for the alteration, improvement, or reconstruction of sewer systems, storm drain systems, wastewater treatment plant improvements, structures, streets, traffic signals, lighting, pedestrian facilities, and other public infrastructure.
- Packages, writes, and reviews special provisions and specifications for public contracts.
- Develops project concepts; performing necessary computations; cost/benefit analysis; recommending design criteria; assisting in plan review processes.
- Computes material quantities and cost estimates.
- Solicits bids and prepares bidding documents for public contract advertising.
- Performs project management duties, including preparing contracts, change orders, and cost and pay estimates. Serves as liaison between City and contractor, checking progress of work, etc.
- Performs field inspections and onsite visits to check plan/scope accuracy, proper construction, and resolving discrepancies.
- Ensures compliance with contractual stipulations and all applicable codes and statutes.
- Prepares correspondence for internal staff, public, external stakeholders, technical reports, City documents, proposals, reports, and graphics.
- Prepares and manages engineering consultant contracts.
- Verifies contractor qualifications and monitors work progress.
- Reviews plans and specifications for private development-initiated projects.
- Communicates by phone, letter, electronically and in person with other City staff, public agencies, property owners, developers, engineering consultants, contractors, and the public. Provides information on public improvement projects and City codes, policies, and procedures; performs intake of complaints and may respond or route appropriately.
- Communicates and works with co-workers, public, engineering consultants, contractors, city partners, and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinates, attends, and/or conducts various project development and delivery meetings and may include preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.
- Produces, processes, files, and maintains a variety of records, maps, plans, permits, property descriptions and other technical-related information.
- Prepares a variety of reports related to activities in assigned area of responsibility.
Specialized duties for those positions assigned to Design Services may be responsible for:
- Uses AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent software to develop and design the completion of engineering drawings and plans for the alteration, improvement, or reconstruction of utilities, structures, streets, pedestrian, and other facilities.
- Negotiates property acquisitions and verifies and researches related documentation.
- Collects pre-construction site information; researches existing city/county records to estimate property lines and right-of-way locations.
- Coordinates with Utility providers for the status and location and potential required relocation for utilities and to coordinate work activities for capital improvement projects.
Other Functions of the Position:- Assists the public with a variety of inquiries and requests for information related to public works services; pursues and resolves citizen complaints in area of expertise.
- Assists in preparing City Council agenda commentaries; attends meetings and represents the Public Works Department.

Work is performed in both an office and field environment.
