Summary
Employee in this position is responsible for performing independent and responsible technical engineering work involving a variety of field or office engineering, or closely related types of assignment. Assignments may involve performing activities in support of design, construction, right of way acquisition, plat review, survey work, asset inventory, permitting, and other related technical engineering work.

Job Duties

• Maintain and operate pipe camera systems, GPS, computer, and other equipment to gather data for the Public Works infrastructure databases.
• Update and otherwise maintain the Public Works infrastructure databases.
• Assist in the gathering of survey information; computing and detailing grades, profiles and alignments; calculation of centerlines, materials, quantities, rights-of-ways, and preliminary cost estimates.
• Assist in the inspection of Public Works projects as directed by the Project Engineer.
• Participate in technical engineering and land survey work required for the maintenance, design, and construction of County roads and drainage systems.
• Assist in the review of construction plans and specifications for accuracy and completeness in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.
• Research deeds, road establishments, rights of way, vacations, easements, and other related documents as they apply to specific projects.
• Perform other tasks as directed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to independently carry out assignments according to established standards, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications and be familiar with construction principles and standards.
• Knowledge of mathematics, geometry and trigonometry as applied to the area and specialization of the position.
• Skilled in the use and care of the instruments and equipment employed in the area and specialization of the position.
• Knowledge in the practical application and use of computers, and the ability to learn software such as database software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to operate county vehicles and trailers in the performance of assigned duties.
• Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, and to use independent judgment in completing assignments.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without injury while performing assigned duties.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
• Ability to adhere to recognized safe working procedures, use proper safety equipment and apparel, and to recognize unsafe situations while performing work assignments.

Education, Experience & Certifications

• Desired minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible technical engineering experience in one or more specific areas of technical engineering work, or successful completion of college level course work in engineering or a related subject for up to two (2) years of the required experience.
• Valid Washington State Driver's license.
