Role Overview

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for implementing innovative technology and process solutions that enhance Generac's fabrication and welding capabilities. The role involves:
  • Partnering with design engineering to improve Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in sheet metal fabrication and welding
  • Implementing OEE improvement activities
  • Determining equipment capacities and optimizing production
  • Collaborating with manufacturing personnel to ensure implementation of process plans
  • Supporting both production operations and capital/project management initiatives
Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and implement area layouts, equipment, programs, and tooling for continuous improvement and capacity projects
  • Support DFM in New Product Introductions (NPI) for sheet metal components
  • Contribute to facility transformation, technology transfer, and maintenance of sheet metal fabrication value streams
  • Ensure successful execution of process improvement initiatives through documentation and procedures
  • Apply demand-driven principles for operational excellence: flexibility, speed, responsiveness
  • Ensure synchronization of product, material, and information streams for maximum efficiency and lowest cost
  • Generate innovative solutions to improve sheet metal fabrication results
  • Deploy standard Generac tools, methodologies, standards, and processes
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to meet customer satisfaction and fulfillment needs
  • Collaborate closely with shop floor personnel to optimize manufacturing methods, systems, and controls
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in a similar manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, specifically supporting soft-tooled sheet metal fabrication
  • Experience with turret punching, laser cutting, press brakes, MIG welding
  • Knowledge of Amada and Salvagnini fabrication equipment
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for sheet metal fabrication (SolidWorks, ProE, AutoCAD)
  • Project management experience for machine tool acquisition and implementation
  • Lean manufacturing experience (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping)
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume and high-volume, low-mix production environments
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills

  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders
  • Occasional lifting of 25-50 lbs
  • Frequent computer-based work requiring sitting and visual focus

  • Salary: $91,300 - $136,900 USD
