Role Overview The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for implementing innovative technology and process solutions that enhance Generac's
fabrication and welding capabilities. The role involves:
- Partnering with design engineering to improve Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in sheet metal fabrication and welding
- Implementing OEE improvement activities
- Determining equipment capacities and optimizing production
- Collaborating with manufacturing personnel to ensure implementation of process plans
- Supporting both production operations and capital/project management initiatives
Primary Responsibilities - Design and implement area layouts, equipment, programs, and tooling for continuous improvement and capacity projects
- Support DFM in New Product Introductions (NPI) for sheet metal components
- Contribute to facility transformation, technology transfer, and maintenance of sheet metal fabrication value streams
- Ensure successful execution of process improvement initiatives through documentation and procedures
- Apply demand-driven principles for operational excellence: flexibility, speed, responsiveness
- Ensure synchronization of product, material, and information streams for maximum efficiency and lowest cost
- Generate innovative solutions to improve sheet metal fabrication results
- Deploy standard Generac tools, methodologies, standards, and processes
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to meet customer satisfaction and fulfillment needs
- Collaborate closely with shop floor personnel to optimize manufacturing methods, systems, and controls
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in a similar manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications - 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, specifically supporting soft-tooled sheet metal fabrication
- Experience with turret punching, laser cutting, press brakes, MIG welding
- Knowledge of Amada and Salvagnini fabrication equipment
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for sheet metal fabrication (SolidWorks, ProE, AutoCAD)
- Project management experience for machine tool acquisition and implementation
- Lean manufacturing experience (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping)
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume and high-volume, low-mix production environments
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Physical Demands - Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands to manipulate objects or controls
- Occasionally required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders
- Occasional lifting of 25-50 lbs
- Frequent computer-based work requiring sitting and visual focus
