Purpose of Position

The manufacturing engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and reviewing the procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. The manufacturing engineer is responsible for owning, evaluating, and optimizing current and new processes to drive efficiencies in production using lean tools. They must design and implement manufacturing methods and processes that continually improve employee safety, product quality, and labor productivity goals and objectives for both new and existing products.

This on-site role is located in Altoona, Pennsylvania

What You'll Do

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that our printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) operations run safely, efficiently, and with world-class quality. In this role, you will:

Support Daily Operations

  • Serve as the technical expert for the PCB assembly area, helping the team achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
  • Troubleshoot process or equipment issues and implement effective, sustainable solutions.
  • Train and qualify production operators to ensure safe, consistent, and productive work practices.

Own & Improve Manufacturing Processes

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain machine programs for:
    • Stencil printers
    • SMT equipment
    • Reflow ovens
    • AOI systems
    • Selective solder
    • Axial insertion
    • Wave solder
    • PCB washing equipment
  • Review mechanical drawings and process documentation, recommending enhancements that improve manufacturability.

Drive New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Partner with Design Engineering, Operations, and Quality during new product development.
  • Influence design decisions to ensure safety, quality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.

Lead Continuous Improvement

  • Apply lean tools to streamline production workflows and eliminate waste.
  • Participate in-or lead-Kaizen events focused on improving throughput, quality, and ergonomics.
  • Initiate engineering change requests and material deviations to improve products and processes.

Equipment, Tooling & Documentation

  • Identify capital equipment needs and support business-case justification.
  • Develop concept drawings, cost estimates, and implementation schedules for new tooling and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and cost structures in the ERP system.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to evaluate and select tooling, components, and production equipment.

Qualifications:

Background and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Industrial, Electrical, or Electromechanical preferred).
  • 2+ years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in electronics or PCBA environments.

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts and tools.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with ERP systems.
  • Experience with the following software and equipment is highly valued:
    • GerbTool (stencil development and PCB layer review)
    • Aegis (SMT assembly programming and work instructions)
    • SOLIDWORKS (fixture and tooling design)
    • PCB assembly equipment and processes listed above
