Job purpose

This role is responsible for the engineering and execution of compressor revamp scopes, including centrifugal and reciprocating compressors-across all phases of the project lifecycle, from scope definition and design through fabrication, installation, and commissioning. The candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of rotating equipment, piping systems, and industry codes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project execution.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate compressor revamp and retrofit projects from scope development to commissioning.
  • Review and evaluate existing compressor system designs to define required modifications, including mechanical re-rates and component upgrades.
  • Collaborate with designers to develop and review P&IDs, PFDs, and layout drawings related to revamp scopes.
  • Specify equipment modifications or replacements based on process requirements, performance analysis, and OEM recommendations.
  • Perform mechanical design and calculations in accordance with applicable codes (e.g., API, ASME Section VIII, B31.3).
  • Coordinate with OEMs, third-party vendors, and internal departments to spec and source components, manage technical clarifications, and ensure alignment with revamp objectives.
  • Review and approve vendor documents, datasheets, drawings, and fabrication packages.
  • Support site teams during field verification, decommissioning, installation, and startup phases.
  • Participate in and contribute to project design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety studies.
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, project documentation requirements, and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, revision control, and timely documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Report on project milestones, risks, and progress to engineering and project management teams.
Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or EIT certification is a plus
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in natural gas compression or rotating equipment projects, including 2+ years focused on revamp or retrofit scopes.
  • In-depth knowledge of reciprocating and/or centrifugal compressors, including design, operation, and performance evaluation.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards:
    • ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
    • ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels)
    • NFPA 70 / NEC (electrical interfaces where applicable)
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD platforms (AutoCAD, CadWorx, SolidWorks) and engineering analysis tools (e.g., Compress, DesignCalcs).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially in brownfield environments.
  • Ability to interpret and develop P&IDs, general arrangements, fabrication isometrics, and control philosophies.
  • Experience supporting fabrication and field teams, with a focus on constructability and operational safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Results-driven with a commitment to engineering excellence and safety.
  • Strong understanding of gas process systems, skid packages, and modular assemblies.
  • Experience working in environments involving power generation, midstream gas processing, or offshore oil and gas is a plus.
