Job Summary:

The Structural Engineering Associate Level 1 is responsible for designing and reviewing engineering structures that meet customer specifications, technical standards, and legal requirements with heavy guidance and oversight from Structural Engineering Associate Level 2 and 3. This role performs detailed calculations to analyze the forces and stresses acting on structural components, such as beam, columns, connections, and anchors, ensuring safety and structural integrity, as directed by Structural Engineering Associates Level 2 and 3. Similarly, this role requires working with other designers. It involves providing engineering support across multiple departments and preparing accurate documentation. This role may occasionally involve interacting with external certifying bodies and ensuring all designs comply with regulatory and safety standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create engineering structural designs and drawings that meet customer specifications, the intention of the design, technical specifications, legal requirements, and are within manufacturing abilities with significant direction from Structural Engineering Associates Levels 2 and 3
  • Perform calculations to address pressures, stresses, and strains that components, such as a beam, columns, connections, and anchors, will experience from other parts of the structure
  • Liaise with other designers on safe designs, fit, risk, and structural integrity
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to ensure compliance with design criteria and regulations with strong oversight from Structural Engineering Associate Levels 2 and 3
  • Assist in reviewing designs from structural designers
  • Assist Structural Engineering Associates Levels 2 and 3, when directed
  • Infrequently interact with vendors and Sales/Project Management on small design related issues
  • Provide engineering support to Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service Support, and other departments
  • Prepare and check engineering documents, instructions to service, shop floor instructions, and other documents
  • Prepare design response(s) to requests for proposals from Sales/Project Management
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, engineers, internal design team members, and the Plant Supervisors
  • Prepare bills of material for purchasing, assembly, and construction of modules for manufacturing and assembly
  • Comply with all departmental design practices and processes
  • Comply with health and safety policies and procedures
  • Assist Structural Engineering Associates Level 2's, when directed
  • Assist in other related tasks

Job Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in structural engineering
  • structural design experience is an asset
  • Proficient in Solid Works, AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, EPDM
  • Friendly personality and able to work with of co-workers respectfully and effectively
  • Able to multitask and work efficiently in a demanding environment
  • Motivated self-starter with initiative and ability to work independently
  • Problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
  • Able to take directions and communicate with others
  • Able to attend work regularly
  • Able to meet the physical and sensory demands of the position

Contacts:

  • Internal engineering and shop staff and contractors to exchange information, answer questions, and solve problems.

Effort (Physical & Sensory):

  • Perform work sitting and using computers for 8-10 hours per day
  • Regular standing, walking, sitting, use of fine motor skills
  • Occasional light lifting while performing tasks
  • Regular vision/sensory demands: close, distance, peripheral, depth, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when out in the plant environment
