Position DescriptionThe Engineer I plays a key role in supporting the design, development, and continuous improvement of medical device components, assemblies, and related systems. This position focuses on a blend of design and project execution, with an emphasis on managing projects, conducting testing, and driving technical solutions within a cross-functional engineering environment.
The Engineer I partners closely with the Technology and Development Mechanical team and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to translate clinical needs and product requirements into functional designs. This role provides hands-on exposure to the product lifecycle, including testing, root cause analysis, and technical documentation, while building a strong foundation in engineering principles and project management. This position is well-suited for individuals who are detail-oriented, technically curious, and eager to take ownership of projects early in their careers.
Key Responsibilities:- Support the design and development of medical device components, assemblies, and fixtures within a collaborative engineering team.
- Assist in planning and executing engineering projects, including defining scope, timelines, deliverables, and resource needs.
- Perform testing, experimentation, and data analysis to evaluate product performance and support design decisions.
- Conduct root cause analysis on component and product failures and implement corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including reports, test methods, and design specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and product development, to ensure designs are feasible and aligned with production requirements.
- Support iterative design improvements based on testing results, feedback, and evolving project needs.
- Participate in design reviews, team discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position RequirementsThis Position Requires the Following Skills and Attributes- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing or product development environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
- Exposure to CAD tools, including SolidWorks and general engineering design principles.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of technical aptitude.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-based environment.
PreferredThe Following Skills and Attributes are Preferred- Internship or co-op experience in engineering, particularly in manufacturing or product development.
- Exposure to R&D or early-stage product development environments.
- Experience with benchtop testing, prototyping, or experimental design.
- Familiarity with laboratory or machine shop equipment.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of materials science or chemistry.
- Exposure to medical device design processes and regulatory standards, inclduing FDA and ISO.
- Experience with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making.
