Job Overview
Tekberry is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Mechanical Engineer I to support design and drafting activities for our client, a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies. This role is part of the Downstream Platforms & Technology team and focuses on creating, managing, and standardizing mechanical designs for custom process equipment used in optical fiber and cable manufacturing facilities worldwide.
The Development Mechanical Engineer I will take ownership of mechanical drawing packages, working with engineering teams to integrate designs across multiple configurations while ensuring compliance with company standards and industry requirements.

Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
• Create 2D drawings from existing 3D models using Autodesk tools
• Develop 3D models for new components and equipment designs
• Revise and update existing models and drawings in accordance with company standards
• Produce detailed drawing packages including sheet metal, weldments, assemblies, and components
Engineering Integration
• Collect and incorporate design inputs from engineering and development teams
• Integrate mechanical designs across multiple equipment configurations while maintaining standardization
• Design mounting systems and layouts for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components
• Ensure system usability, serviceability, and proper integration
Data Collection & Floor Support
• Gather measurements and system data from production floor environments
• Document existing equipment configurations and system layouts
• Utilize hands-on skills to understand equipment function and improve designs
Documentation & Release
• Prepare and submit drawing packages through the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process
• Maintain drawing integrity within Autodesk Vault
• Ensure all designs comply with company drafting standards, industry regulations, and safety requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree (or drafting certification with relevant experience)
• 0-3 years of experience in mechanical design or drafting
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault
• Working knowledge of ASME/ANSI drafting standards
• Basic proficiency with Windows-based computer systems
• Ability to use measurement tools and gather field data
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work safely in a production environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing mechanical systems for manufacturing equipment
• Familiarity with pneumatic systems and component integration
• Experience working in industrial or manufacturing environments
• Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills
• Ability to adapt to company standards and engineering guidelines
Work Environment
• Contract position (12 months) supporting engineering and manufacturing operations
• Onsite work required initially, with potential hybrid flexibility after training
• Hands-on work in both office and production floor environments
• Standard weekday schedule with potential collaboration across teams
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work on the production floor as needed
• Ability to take measurements and interact with equipment
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
