Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer with deep expertise in high-voltage substation design. This specialist role focuses on delivering high quality engineering packages across low to high-voltage systems, while providing technical mentorship to junior engineers.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in physical substation design and Protection & Control (P&C), excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing engineering practice within a smaller, agile organization.
Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Responsibilities: - Lead the design of high-voltage substation projects from concept through IFC
- Produce and review engineering deliverables including layouts, grounding plans, wiring diagrams, and switching diagrams
- Support Protection & Control activities including schematics, single-line diagrams, and control wiring
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements
- Collaborate with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines to coordinate project interfaces
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers on design practices and engineering standards
- Participate in technical reviews, internal design coordination, and client discussions
- Support quality assurance processes and engineering documentation control
- Follow direction and contribute positively within established workflows and project structures
Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Mandatory Skills: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Extensive experience in substation design (low-voltage to high-voltage systems)
- Strong proficiency in engineering design tools such as Revit, ETAP, SKM, and AutoCAD
- Proven ability to create and review electrical diagrams, grounding plans, and substation layouts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take direction, follow structured processes, and collaborate effectively across teams
Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Preferred Qualifications: - Background in engineering design firms or EPC environments
- Exposure to both physical design and Protection & Control (P&C) engineering
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
