Tooling Engineer | Whitehall, MI

Salary Range: $70,000 - $109,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize tooling for manufacturing processes.
• Collaborate with production and design teams to ensure tooling meets product specifications and production requirements.
• Analyze and troubleshoot tooling issues, implementing corrective actions to improve performance and reliability.
• Conduct root cause analysis of tooling failures and develop preventative measures.
• Manage tooling lifecycle, including procurement, maintenance, repair, and replacement.
• Develop and maintain tooling documentation, including specifications, drawings, and maintenance procedures.
• Evaluate new tooling technologies and materials for potential application in manufacturing.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in tooling design, manufacturing, and maintenance within a production environment.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for tooling design and analysis.
• Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, stamping, die casting) and their associated tooling requirements.
• Experience with tool steels, heat treatment, surface treatments, and their application in tooling.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for mold design and analysis (e.g., SolidWorks, Catia, Moldflow).
• Familiarity with various manufacturing processes beyond injection molding, such as stamping, casting, or machining.
• Knowledge of metrology and inspection techniques for tooling validation (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
• Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
• Ability to speak multiple languages, particularly those common in global manufacturing (e.g., Mandarin, German).
