The OpportunityWe are collaborating with multiple companies in East Lansing seeking experienced Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities- Develop and optimize laser welding processes for new and existing products.
- Design and implement laser welding fixtures and tooling.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for welding defects.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure weldability and manufacturability.
- Conduct material characterization and mechanical testing of laser welded joints.
- Qualify new laser welding equipment and processes.
- Provide technical expertise and training to production personnel on laser welding techniques.
Recommended Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in laser welding processes and equipment within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in laser welding metallurgy, material interactions, and defect analysis.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and applying them to weld joint design and inspection.
- Experience with process development, optimization, and validation for laser welding applications.
Bonus Qualifications- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE).
- Knowledge of other welding processes (e.g., TIG, MIG) and their applications.
- Familiarity with robotics and automation in a manufacturing setting.
- Certification in laser safety or other relevant industrial safety standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for fixture design and analysis.
