Responsibilities of the Rotating Equipment Engineer include, but are not limited to:
• Specify, evaluate, and select centrifugal, reciprocating, screw, gear, diaphragm, and progressive cavity pumps according to process requirements and applicable standards (API 610, API 674, API 675, ISO, ANSI).
• Prepare datasheets, technical requisitions, and review vendor documentation for new pumps and pump packages.
• Ensure compliance with design codes, company standards, and international standards.
• Participate in HAZOP/HAZID reviews to ensure pump systems meet process safety requirements.
• Define seal systems (API Plan 52, 53, etc.), bearings, couplings, and alignment tolerances.
• Support piping layout and stress analysis to ensure proper nozzle loads and maintainability.
• Evaluate modifications, retrofits, or replacements to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SIT (Site Integration Test), and commissioning/start-up activities.
• Interface with vendors and multidisciplinary teams (process, piping, electrical, instrumentation).
• Develop and update specifications, guidelines, and best practices for pumps and auxiliaries.
• Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance staff.
• Develop pump component drawings in coordination with design group
• Coordinate part manufacture with in-house and subcontracted sources
• Issue BOM's and work instruction releases
• Ensure client and industry specification adherence
• Develop professional repair scopes of supply with inspection details and pricing
• Communicate effectively and consistently with internal and external clients
• Attend client meetings as required with sales staff to support current and rupture repair projects
• Manage repair projects as designated by repairs coordinator
• Quality control of managed repairs
• Attend production meetings and provide status reports on managed repairs
Qualifications of the Rotating Equipment Engineer include, but are not limited to:
• 5+ years of experience with rotating equipment, specifically pumps (design, operation, or maintenance).
• Strong knowledge of pump hydraulics, thermodynamics, vibration analysis, and reliability engineering.
• Previous experience in an API/ANSI pumps facility is highly desirable.
• Experience repairing IPM pumps, creating details, and making technical decisions.
• Familiarity with standards such as API 610, API 685, API 674, ANSI B73.1, ISO 13709, ISO 2858.
• In-depth understanding of API 610, and other applicable standards
• Proficiency in engineering software (ANSYS, SolidWorks, AutoPIPE, or CAESAR II) and simulation tools.
• Strong communication and reporting skills; ability to interact with vendors and multidisciplinary teams.
