Facilities Mechanical Engineer

$126,900 - $174,700 yearly

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer (Industrial/High-Tech)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and infrastructure integration for complex, mission-critical industrial facilities. You will be the primary technical lead responsible for the entire project lifecycle-from establishing the Basis of Design (BOD) and scoping stakeholder requirements to overseeing construction and system integration.
This is a dynamic, high-impact role. You will bridge the gap between initial design and operational success, working on-site to navigate "densely packed" industrial systems that require precise engineering and meticulous documentation. If you are a seasoned engineer who enjoys the hands-on aspects of construction support, design verification, and collaborative multidisciplinary problem-solving, this is the perfect opportunity to make a big impact.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Leadership
• Project Delivery: Establish scope documents, client specifications, and construction requirements for complex infrastructure upgrades. Own the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and Scope of Work (SOW) documents for mechanical systems.
• Technical Engineering: Execute code assessments, HAZOP reviews, and engineering calculations for critical systems including HVAC, process cooling water, exhaust, fire protection, and high-purity process piping.
• System Lifecycle: Manage the retrofit and expansion of existing mechanical infrastructure, ensuring all equipment sizing, selection, and specification meets rigorous industrial standards.

Collaboration & Site Integration
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Serve as the mechanical representative on a design-build team. Collaborate with system owners, trade contractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Field Oversight: Oversee construction and integration into the facility. Interpret P&IDs, layout drawings, and equipment plans in the field to troubleshoot issues and ensure the final installation matches the design.
• Stakeholder Management: Run project meetings that drive decisions. Balance technical feasibility with cost and schedule constraints to provide the best solutions for the client.

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Experience Baseline: 10+ years of practical application in facilities mechanical design (HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing).
• Project Delivery: 5+ years of experience managing the design project delivery process.
• Technical Mastery: Solid knowledge of ASME and ASME B31.3 codes, building/fire codes, and ASHRAE standards. Proven ability to review vendor submittals against complex specifications.

Preferred Attributes
• Professional Licensure: PE or EIT licensure is highly preferred.
• Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM360.
• Field-Ready: Experience working in active, complex industrial environments; comfortable with construction-site walking, climbing, and field-based troubleshooting.
