Job Description
Job Title: Civil Design Technician
Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Civil Design Technician to support our civil engineering team. You will be responsible for translating site development concepts into precise 3D models and high-quality contract drawings. This is a technical, hands-on role that requires a strong command of Civil 3D and a solid understanding of how engineering designs are translated into construction-ready documentation.
This position is ideal for a designer who enjoys the "nuts and bolts" of site development and is looking to grow their technical skillset within a collaborative team. If you are comfortable communicating with internal stakeholders and take pride in the accuracy and professional quality of your drawings, we invite you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting Execution
• 3D Modeling: Utilize Civil 3D to create accurate site models, including grading, drainage, and utility networks.
• Contract Drawings: Assist in the production of comprehensive construction document sets. Ensure all drawings meet internal quality standards and effectively communicate the project requirements to the contractor.
• Coordination: Actively communicate with the engineering and project management teams to resolve design conflicts, implement redlines, and ensure project milestones are met.
Permitting & Project Support
• Permit Documentation: Provide technical support during the permitting process by preparing necessary exhibits, plan sets, and supporting documentation.
• Workflow Management: Maintain clear communication with department members and project leadership, providing regular updates on design progress and highlighting potential technical risks early in the process.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or Associate's degree in CAD/Design is preferred.
• Experience Baseline: 2+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design or drafting.
• Technical Mastery: Demonstrated working proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Regulatory Exposure: Familiarity with the civil site permitting process and how it influences plan preparation.
Preferred Attributes
• Strong verbal and written communication skills-you can clearly explain your drafting decisions and identify missing information.
• A "constructability" mindset-you don't just draw lines; you understand how the site elements fit together on the ground.
• Self-motivated and capable of working effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
