Product Engineer - Components

Location: Dearborn, MI
Schedule: Morning Shift | Fully Onsite (5 Days/Week)
Pay Rate: $47.00 - $52.00/hour
Employment Type: W2 Contract
Position Overview

We are seeking a Product Engineer - Components to support the design, development, validation, release, and launch of automotive roof system components and mechanisms. This role will be responsible for delivering robust component designs that meet vehicle performance, quality, weight, cost, and timing requirements throughout the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive product development, component design, CAD, supplier management, and engineering problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, validation, and release of roof system components and mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to achieve program targets for quality, cost, weight, performance, and timing.
  • Create, review, and approve CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and tolerance analyses.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, Boundary Diagrams, and P-Diagrams.
  • Perform and review technical analyses such as stack-up studies, CAE evaluations, and design feasibility assessments.
  • Support prototype builds, validation activities, assembly plant launches, and production issue resolution.
  • Conduct root cause investigations utilizing 8D, 5 Why, Six Sigma, and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Manage engineering changes, part releases, BOM updates, and design compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Present technical updates and design reviews to engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Travel to supplier and manufacturing locations as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in product design, product development, automotive engineering, or mechanism development.
  • Experience leading component development from concept through production.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA, Teamcenter, 3DX, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with DFMEA, root cause analysis, and engineering problem-solving tools.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills utilizing Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with automotive roof systems, closure systems, movable glass, or mechanical mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, and Statistical Process Control methodologies.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and quality systems.
  • Experience reviewing CAE results and supporting validation testing.
  • Understanding of Six Sigma principles and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Supplier management and vehicle launch experience.
