Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The ability to teach traditional and online courses in Safety Management and Engineering Technology is expected. The successful applicant will contribute to the continued growth and improvement of the Environmental Health & Safety Management program through curriculum development, enhancement of teaching and laboratory resources, student mentoring, department service and applied undergraduate projects. The applicant is also expected to support program assessment, accreditation activities, and industry engagement.

Educational Requirements for the Position

An earned Masters or Doctorate degree (ABD candidates will also be considered) in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Applied Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field is preferred. Applicants should have expertise in occupational and industrial safety, including safety management, OSHA compliance, hazard identification and risk assessment, and workplace safety. The ability to teach courses in Safety Management and contribute to other Engineering Technology program areas, such as Construction Management, Engineering Technology, and Engineering Design Technology, is desirable. Candidates with broad industry experience and interdisciplinary technical expertise are strongly encouraged to apply. Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to undergraduate education are required. Relevant industry and college-level teaching experience, as well as professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHST, are preferred.

The Department of Engineering Technology at SHSU has 700+ majors and offers 40+ different Engineering Technology courses. The new academic building - Fred Pirkle Engineering Technology Center houses the faculty offices, classrooms, CAD/CAM, electronics, 3D printing, innovation, material testing, and alternative energy labs. The department also maintains the Westmoreland Engineering Technology Center and Annex A, B, and C buildings which house the virtual reality, safety, woodworking, metalworking, CNC, material testing, and fluid power labs.
