Keep Manufacturing Equipment Running, Improving, and Evolving

ATCO Rubber Products, a Mueller Industries subsidiary, is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to support, improve, rebuild, and troubleshoot industrial manufacturing machinery.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working directly with equipment on the production floor. You will work closely with maintenance technicians, machinists, fabricators, controls personnel, and production teams to diagnose equipment problems, improve machine reliability, manage rebuild projects, and develop practical engineering solutions.

This is not a desk-only engineering position. We are looking for someone comfortable diagnosing machinery, taking equipment apart, identifying failure points, redesigning components, and seeing projects through installation and startup.

What You'll Do
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical problems on industrial manufacturing machinery.
  • Lead equipment rebuilds, repairs, upgrades, and reliability improvement projects.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and develop permanent corrective actions.
  • Design and modify machine components, assemblies, guarding, frames, fixtures, and mechanisms.
  • Work directly with maintenance personnel to diagnose failures and improve equipment uptime.
  • Evaluate bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, power transmission systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and other machine components.
  • Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Support installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new or modified equipment.
  • Improve existing machinery for safety, reliability, maintainability, throughput, and operator usability.
  • Coordinate projects with machinists, fabricators, electricians, controls engineers, vendors, and production personnel.
  • Help develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and support standardization of equipment designs and replacement components.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working with industrial manufacturing machinery, machine design, equipment maintenance, or machinery reliability.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Experience designing, repairing, modifying, or rebuilding industrial machinery.
  • Strong understanding of bearings, shafting, power transmission, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, gearboxes, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar.
  • Ability to independently manage equipment improvement and rebuild projects from problem identification through installation and startup.
  • Comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor and alongside maintenance and production personnel.
  • Experience with automated machinery, sensors, PLC-controlled equipment, servo systems, robotics, or industrial controls is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a practical, team-oriented approach.

Why Join Mueller Industries?
  • Work directly on industrial manufacturing equipment where your engineering decisions have an immediate impact.
  • Lead machinery rebuilds, reliability improvements, equipment upgrades, and automation projects.
  • Solve real-world mechanical problems instead of spending your entire day behind a desk.
  • Work alongside experienced machinists, maintenance technicians, fabricators, controls personnel, and production teams.
  • Develop and improve equipment used throughout a large manufacturing operation.
  • Competitive salary, comprehensive health benefits, retirement plans, and opportunities for career advancement.
