Summary

The Design Project Engineer collaborates with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance to design and develop machinery, equipment, tooling, and fixtures that improve internal manufacturing operations. This role identifies opportunities to increase throughput, improve safety, enhance quality, and support operational efficiency through practical engineering solutions.

The ideal candidate is a results-oriented, hands-on problem solver who can develop innovative solutions while considering manufacturing constraints, project requirements, and operational needs. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects from concept through implementation.

Location: This is a 100% on-site position. Candidates must reside within daily commuting distance of our facility. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and develop machinery, equipment, tooling, and fixtures using 3D CAD software to improve safety, quality, throughput, and efficiency within manufacturing operations.
  • Create accurate 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation to support manufacturing, assembly, and project implementation.
  • Develop and manage projects from initial concept generation through fabrication, installation, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams to identify operational challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Communicate across departments to establish project requirements, develop project plans, and ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and suppliers to obtain quotations, evaluate options, and gather technical information necessary for project execution.
  • Provide technical support during the fabrication, assembly, testing, and implementation of equipment and systems.
  • Serve as a liaison between design concepts and manufacturing operations, ensuring solutions are practical, effective, and aligned with production needs.
  • Maintain project documentation and communicate project status, priorities, and milestones to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Related engineering field

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks preferred; candidates with experience using other 3D CAD software may be considered based on software package and experience level.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is beneficial.
  • Experience creating detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings from 3D models.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining, automation, materials, and project management.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to connect engineering design concepts to real-world manufacturing applications.
