Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) with 5-10 years of systems engineering experience to support the development, integration, and lifecycle management of complex defense systems.

The successful candidate will apply MBSE, digital engineering, and disciplined systems engineering processes to translate mission and operational needs into system requirements, architectures, interfaces, technical baselines, and verification strategies.

This position will work closely with the Chief Systems Engineer, program leadership, government customers, subsystem engineering teams, software/hardware teams, cybersecurity, integration, test, and specialty engineering organizations throughout the system lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and manage system architecture models using SysML and MBSE methodologies.
  • Develop operational, functional, logical, and physical architectures for complex defense systems.
  • Translate capability needs, mission objectives, operational concepts, and stakeholder requirements into well-defined system requirements.
  • Perform requirements decomposition, derivation, allocation, traceability, and verification planning.
  • Maintain bidirectional traceability between mission needs, requirements, architecture elements, interfaces, design elements, and verification evidence.
  • Perform functional analysis and allocate system functions to hardware, software, operators, facilities, and external systems.
  • Define, document, and manage internal and external interfaces.
  • Support development and maintenance of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and interface requirements.
  • Support system requirements specifications, architecture descriptions, technical analysis documentation, verification plans, and other program systems engineering products.
  • Conduct and document trade studies, technical analyses, risk assessments, and architecture evaluations to support engineering decisions.
  • Support development and execution of verification and validation (V&V) strategies, including verification methods, success criteria, and requirements-to-test traceability.
  • Support establishment and maintenance of functional, allocated, and product baselines.
  • Ensure consistency between the authoritative system model, requirements database, interface documentation, design artifacts, and verification evidence.
  • Support configuration management and change control of system requirements, architecture models, interfaces, and technical baselines.
  • Participate in and develop technical artifacts for major program reviews including SRR, , PDR, CDR, TRR, as applicable.
  • Support the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and implementation of program systems engineering processes.
  • Identify requirements, architecture, interface, integration, and technical risks early in the system lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with government and contractor engineering organizations to resolve cross-functional technical issues.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or another related technical discipline.
  • 5-10 years of systems engineering experience, preferably supporting defense, aerospace, missile, aviation, space, C5ISR, or other complex systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Strong working knowledge of SysML.
  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler / CATIA Magic / MagicDraw or comparable MBSE modeling tools.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama Connect, or equivalent.
  • Experience developing, decomposing, deriving, allocating, tracing, and verifying system requirements.
  • Experience developing functional, logical, and physical system architectures.
  • Experience with system interface definition and management.
  • Understanding of technical baselines, configuration management, change control, and systems engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Experience supporting formal technical reviews
  • Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and government customers.

Security Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Active Secret or higher clearance preferred, depending on program requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting DoD acquisition programs or major defense system development efforts.
  • Experience implementing Digital Engineering / Digital Thread principles.
  • Experience developing and maintaining an Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT) for system architecture and engineering data.
  • Experience integrating MBSE models with requirements management, analysis, simulation, configuration management, and test environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and INCOSE systems engineering practices.
  • Experience with SysML v1.x and/or SysML v2.

  • Experience working with hardware/software-intensive systems.
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is a plus.
